Coupons Clippers: Making It Work For You

Coupons Clippers

Coupons clippers are people who want to save money on a variety of products or services.   Some do the work of finding the coupons and clipping them, only to leave them at home or in their purse and never actually using them.  However, many, many shoppers are saving $100 plus on their groceries on a regular basis.  How?  They have either used a tried and true method or just figured it out on their own.  And necessity can cause you to dig harder especially when there are many mouths to feed and clothe on a very limited budget.  To put it bluntly, many have to figure it out or just do without, plain and simple!   Of course, there are people are not that budget pressed.  But saving money with coupons is a wonderful endeavor.  If you don't really need the savings, there are many who could be helped with your efforts, such as a neighbor, the local food bank, your church, etc.

Coupons power dates back to 1888 when a marketer offered free glasses of a beverage by giving away paper tickets.  By 1965, fifty percent of USA families were using coupons.  And by 2002 it is reported that USA consumers saved $3.8 billion by using coupons.  Can you imagine what many consumers are saving today by using coupons?

Today with technology, consumers don't have to be coupon clippers.  For example, some stores offer a loyalty card to their customers who will register for it.  Then, the customer can select coupon offers through a company, such as RedPlum.com and actually load the coupons into the store's card.  When the customer arrives at the cash register and has selected qualifying items, the discount is taken right there and then.  This means no coupons to clip or physically bring to the store.  Also, technology has enabled coupons to be sent directly to your mobile device.

Coupons Clippers Still Active

Even though technology has provided more ease in obtaining coupons, many consumers are still coupons clippers.   Why?  Coupons are delivered right to your mailbox via the postal service sometimes two or three times a week.  Newspapers are loaded with them especially on Wednesdays and Sundays.  Magazines have coupons in them all for the  using.  Many stores have in store coupons located above a certain product or sometimes as you enter the door via a store newspaper.   Consumers can also go to websites and print off coupons.  You can even sign up to get coupons sent to your inbox.

Inflation At Work

If you buy groceries on a regular basis, you see inflation at work.  Who hasn't noticed groceries and many other products that are used on a daily basis getting higher and higher.  And in many cases, the price is about the same but the product is smaller in size or quanity.  There is mega help available by using coupons but many times they go into the trash and not used.  Some people even complain about getting them in the mail for example.  Let's face it, many people don't really know all the in's and out's to make coupon clipping really worth their time and effort.  This site can help you with tips and resources to learn the art of saving 100s of dollars by being a 'coupons clipper'.   Please check back often for updates and helpful ways to save you money!

Happy Coupon Clipping!

How Do QR Codes Work?

Before we answer the question of “how do QR codes work?“, let’s explore what Quick Response (QR) codes are, their purpose, origin, etc. below:

The origin of the QR code got it’s start in 1994 when a subsidiary company to Toyota called Denso-Wave created it in Japan.  The QR code is two-dimensional with black modules in a square box with a white background.  The code can be processed very rapidly and contain text, a url or other data. This code was originally created to tracking parts for vehicles but today, many companies use it for a variety of purposes, such as marketing.  Although there is more than one two-dimensional  code, the QR is the most popular.   There are different types of the codes as well depending on the amount of characters wanted in the scan.  Its use  is common in Japan, South Korean and the Netherlands.  The United States have been very slow to use it as well as many other countries.

How QR Codes Work

QR codes probably look strange and even scary to many people but how QR codes work is rather simple.   These codes are readable by dedicated bar code readers and cell phones with a camera providing the proper app is loaded onto the phone.  For example, if you are driving past a business with a QR code on its sign and this code is scanned by your cell phone, you will have direct access to that companies’ website or any information they are wanting you to know them.  Another example is using a QR code on a business card.  When this funny looking code box is scanned, the business card information is downloaded onto the phone for instant access.  If you still are wondering how to scan a QR code with your camera cell phone, basically you just take a picture of it.

QR Code Coupons

One exciting thing about all this is the ability to load up QR code coupons on your mobile phone.  If you haven’t noticed already, mailers for advertising has started coming out recently with these QR codes on them.  It really helps coupon clippers save time by not having to ‘clip’ their coupons.  After taking a picture of the code block, you will have the information right there in your phone when you go to the store.

If your phone doesn’t come with an app that enables it to scan the QR code, there are many free ones out there.  You will need the right app for your particular cell phone since not all QR code reader apps are the same.  Doing a search for “free QR code apps” will supply you with ample information.

If you want to create a QR code, Google has a free QR code generator.  To access the code, first type in a URL at www.goo.gl.  The software will shorten the URL of your choice.  After the shorter version of the URL is generated then click onto ‘details’ for the QR code.  You will need to create an account in order to be able to see the details.   This code can be used for advertising, selling a home or directions to an event, etc.  There are many, many different uses for QR codes.

Coupons for Food Lion & Big Deal Promotions

Many of you may have heard the buzz about coupons for Food Lion and Big Deal promotions.  Actually the current Big Deal promotion ends on 6/28/2011 but saving with coupons at Food Lion is ongoing.  They do not double coupons but multiple coupons for the same item can be used with a maximum of 10 coupons per item.  But you can’t use a store coupon and manufacturer’s coupon combined on an item.

Coupons for Food Lion @ FoodLion.com

Resources: Coupons for Food Lion & Big Deal Promotions

There are several resources consumers can use in order to take advantage of coupons for Food Lion and Big Deal Promotions.  One resource is the store’s website which is very informative.  Coupons can be printed off or loaded onto Food Lion’s MVP card that can be obtained by registering for it.  Consumers should always read the privacy policy when registering for any card such as this so that they are aware of sharing information with third parties.  Also, consumers need to be able to opt-out of the companies’ data base if desired.

If you select the MVP card, coupon offers can be loaded onto it from RedPlum.com.  And, then if an item is purchased that qualifies for a coupon that has been loaded onto the card, the discount is automatically deducted.    This is not valid for hard copy coupons, however.  One word of caution, always check out register receipts before leaving the store to see if you have been billed correctly.

Now, the Big Deal Promotion that is currently going on consists of 125 qualifying items throughout the store.  You can buy quantities of 10, 20 or 30 items and get .50 off each item for a maximum of $15.00 in savings.  To make it even plainer, if you buy 10 qualifying items you get an instant $5 discount.  And if you buy 20 qualifying products an instant $10 discount will be deducted.  And lastly, buying 30 qualifying items will result in a $15 savings.  Even if you only buy one qualifying item, .50 should still be deducted.  When using coupons, it’s a good idea to read the company’s ‘coupon and acceptance policy’ to make sure you are in compliance and that the store is in compliance.  If you have a printed copy with you when you make your purchases, coupon shopping should prove to be less stressful.

Also for your convenience at Food Lion, consumers can actually browse the site for sales and active coupons to make their grocery list right there on the site which is very handy.  You might even land up with a grocery bill totaling  to a few dollars simply because you took the time to plan, pick and choose the best values using coupons!

Happy Coupon Shopping!

From the supplier: A field experiment was conducted on a stratified sample of 354 recyclers and nonrecyclers to test the effects of coupon incentives on consumes’ intentions and behavior in recycling aluminum. Results indicate that modest coupon incentives positively influenced recyclers’ behavior, but did not influence nonrecyclers. Over the range of incentives tested, evidence suggests that increased recycling frequency is directly related to the coupon value. Implications for incorporating coupon promotional programs into the development of energy conservation policy, and areas for future research are discussed.
